The purpose of federalism

The purpose of federalism is to explicitly state what the power of the national and state governments. This was because of Shay’s rebellion. During Shay’s rebellion the federal government was challenged by the state and the national government could not do anything about it because they had no power of a military. Then federalism came out and the things that the states could do was laid out and the things that the federal government could do was laid out and the powers that they both shared was laid out. This gave the federal government the power to have a centralized military and be able to take charge of states. States also have explicit powers, that the federal government does not have, such as the ability to give out licenses. However the federal government can regulate these powers with their ability to decrease funding to states if they don’t abide to the guidelines which the federal government sets.

Part 2
In 1898 the threat to America was monarchies. This caused the Spanish American war where we tried to spread democracy to the Philippines. We tried to stop the monarchy of Spain from spreading and liberate the Philippines to a democracy. In 1917 the U.S. confronted the Axis powers because they were spreading dictatorships which America perceived a threat to the democracy of America because our allies were being conquered and in due time we would try to be also. In 1941 America faced the problem of Nazism, imperialism and fascism. Which threatened our democracy. We sent troops after Pearl Harbor to Europe and Asia because we believed eventually these forces would reach our shores and try to take over our land and has threatened democracy
